Gestalt Principles- Similarity

This is an example of similarity, which is one of the Gestalt Principles of Unity. I decided to use this image because it showed a defined pattern that explained the principle. This principle may have a pattern but that is just one way to explain the principle. The definition is that the objects look similar. This is like similar triangles in math, they are not the same but they share general characteristics.

Louise Nevelson

This is a box by Nevelson. I picked this one because I liked the design and the unity of the piece. The unity was created by using the same material for all parts of the box as  well as the same color. This will make the box look solid from a distance but up close you can see the detail she created. This box reminds me of a bookcase because of the "shelves" that the other elements sit on.

Lucas Samaras

I choose this box by Samaras because I was immediately drawn to it. My favorite thing about it is the materials he used. He used colored chicken wire to create the entire box. It reminds me of an old video game because of the grid look he has created. I really like the green accent in the middle because it looks like a gateway or a door either in or out of the grid.

Cornell Box

This is my version of a Cornell Box. Joseph Cornell created shadow boxes that contained things he found. He especially liked using pictures of colorful birds and odd phrases. I choose to use a bird and the champagne flute to directly contrast each other. The phrase says "Only in your dreams". This emphasizes the theme of the box which is that it was a dream world.
This is an original Joseph Cornell Box.

Form and Content

This is an advertisement for car headlights. The ad says "Plasma 100, 100% brighter than your average headlights". This is a great example of form because it is more about how the message is conveyed then the actual message. The first thing you see when you look at the ad is that there are burn holes in the wall. It shows just how bright the headlights are and it causes people to look at the ad.
